Navigating the Human Factor: Understanding and Addressing Resistance to AI Adoption
Open Until: 06/09/2025
In boardrooms around the world, artificial intelligence (AI) is hailed as a game-changer for efficiency and innovation. Yet many executives discover that deploying AI isn’t the only challenge – the real challenge is getting people to embrace it. Research shows that up to 70% of organizational change programs fail, largely due to employee resistance and lack of management support (Changing change management - McKinsey & Company). AI adoption is proving no exception. An advanced AI system can be technically flawless, but if employees are reluctant or fearful of using it, the investment will yield little value. To truly leverage AI’s potential, leaders must navigate the human factor: the emotions, concerns, and behaviors of the people expected to work with these new technologies. This article explores why people resist AI adoption and how to address that resistance, moving from identifying the problem to practical solutions. The goal is to help executives and AI practitioners turn skepticism into support, ensuring their AI initiatives succeed.
